Jane McGehee

Literary Agent and Foreign Rights Manager

Jane joined the agency in early 2026 after working as a scout for seven years, during which time she placed compelling and diverse stories in the global market. She consulted with major and independent publishers from around the world, and she is proud to have helped her clients acquire a wide range of nonfiction and fiction by authors including Julian Aguon, Sahil Bloom, Maureen Callahan, Allison P. Davis, Claire Dederer, Dasha Kiper, Franco Paz, Aria Aber, Hannah Lillith Assadi, Melissa Broder, Caro de Robertis, Nnedi Okorafor, Jason Rekulak, Namwali Serpell, Lucía Solla Sobral, and Katie Yee.

In addition to managing Calligraph’s foreign rights, she is building a list of nonfiction and select fiction titles, and looking for a wide range of nonfiction, including journalistic investigations, cultural criticisms, and untold histories, as well as fresh perspectives on music, art, popular culture, adventure, psychology, wellness, and self-improvement. She is also keen to represent LGBTQ+ and feminist narratives, surprising scientific explorations, elevated true crime, and memoirs and essays with a distinct point of view. In fiction, Jane is primarily searching for literary and upmarket fiction with evocative writing and memorable characters, but she also delights in page-turning momentum. A fan of the uncanny and gothic across genres, she also has a soft spot for anything with a sharp edge.

Jane graduated from Davidson College with a BA in English. Prior to scouting for Aram Fox and Jenny La Plante, she worked in the contracts and subrights department at Hachette Book Group and began her publishing career as an intern at Farrar, Straus & Giroux.
